Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus anphibius)
This big semi-aquatic mammal inhabits the wetlands, rivers and lakes in several Countries throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
They live in herds from 5 to 25 female, one patriarch and nestling. They spent the major part of their lives inside water, since they can catch their breath for up to 8 minutes, keeping them refreshed during the sunny day. They use to leave water only at night.
Is the third biggest terrestrial mammal, behind Rhino and the elephant. Its weight can reach 3,5 tons and can reach a velocity of 30 km/h. With those proportions, the hippopotamus is one of the most aggressive mammals in the world. It can have 3,4 m a 5 m length and an average height of 1,5m.
